Why is CDL a good option for me?

Think about it this way...

If you'd like benefits, stability, and great pay, then trucking is the industry to be in. There will always be someone who needs something, and there will always be a need for someone to get it there. Per LMI-State Labor Marketing Information, there will be thousands of job openings for truck drivers, hence a need for licensed drivers who have completed a classroom program.

Salaries vary widely based on numerous factors including experience, but newcomers shouldn't be discouraged. On average, first year and student truck drivers can earn about $55,000/year and more senior truck drivers with their CDL can expect to earn $66,000/year. As your experience increases, so can your pay.

There is room to GROW, you don't have to stop at your CDL! These are just a few things you can do once you receive your CDL:

  • OTR CDL: Once you get your CDL, you can apply for your Over the Road Commercial Driver License (OTR CDL) which allows drivers to do long hauls and travel across the country. OTR CDL drivers can expect to earn around $60,000/year.
  • Team Truck Driving: This requires travel with a partner and splitting the driving time. These drivers earn an average of $71,000/each per year.
  • Owner/Operator: This position can earn $270,000 per year but they are also responsible for all of their truck repairs and maintenance.
